John L. "Jack" Berrien, 81, passed away on August 6, 2015 at Capital Health
Medical Center in Hopewell, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Trenton, he resided in Hopewell Township for over 50 years. Jack graduated from Hamilton High School and attended Trenton State College. Jack was employed as a machinist at US Steel Fairless Works for 37 years. Prior to that he had distinguished military service in the US Navy traveling throughout the
Mediterranean onboard the attack cargo transport ship USS Oglethorpe from 1956
to 1959. Jack enjoyed fishing, boating, working on his boat, and was an
accomplished handyman - he could fix anything. He was an avid reader and loved
discussing current events. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and loved
animals, especially his dogs.
Son of the late John S. and Elsie Berrien, Jack is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Lorraine; a brother, George and his wife Jacqueline of Lambertville; three sons, John (Rene') Berrien of Ewing, Christopher (Tina) Berrien of Connecticut; and Marty Berrien of Lawrenceville. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Kate (Mike) Groop, and Elsa, Jonah, and Sarah Berrien.
Calling hours for Jack will be held on Sunday, August 9, 2015 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Poulson-Van Hise Funeral Directors 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648.
Funeral services and interment will be held privately and at the convenience of the family on Monday.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ASPCA or the Humane Society.
