Earl L. Wilbur, Jr., 82, of Harrington, DE died peacefully on Tuesday, April 21 at Delaware Hospice Center, Milford, DE with his loving family by his side.
Born and raised in Princeton, Earl graduated from Princeton High School, Class of 1951 and continued his studies at Lincoln Technical Institute. He retired as General Forman of Plumbing & Heating at Princeton University in 1990 after many years of service.
Earl served in the U.S. Navy and Navy Reserves serving on the USS Briareus and received his honorable discharge in 1955. He also served as Vice Commander of the U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 82 of Cape May.
He was a Life Member, Past Chief and Past President of the Lawrenceville Fire Company, Station 23. For many years he was a member of the Slackwood Presbyterian Church and was a former member of the Princeton Elks, B.P.O.E. #2129.
Along with his wife Shirley, they were foster parents to numerous infants through the Children’s Home Society of New Jersey which provided them much happiness and joy for many years.
Son of the late Earl and Mildred Gibbs Wilbur and brother of the late David Wilbur he is survived by his wife, Shirley Peacock Wilbur; his children, Jeffrey Wilbur and his wife Meg of Mercerville, Deborah Wilson and her husband Jack of Hamilton, Barry Wilbur and his wife Catherine of Manville and Scott Wilbur and his wife Charlene of Coopersburg, PA; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother William Wilbur of Tamarck, Fl; several aunts, uncles and cousins along with his constant Scotty companion, Piper.
Funeral services for Earl will be held on Saturday, April 25, at 10 AM at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville with the Rev. Nina Reeder, Pastor of the Lawrence Road Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Lawrenceville Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call on Saturday from 9 Am until time of services at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions would be appreciated in Earl’s name to either the Lawrenceville Fire Co., 64 Phillips Ave., Lawrenceville, NJ 08648 or to the Children’s Home Society of NJ, 635 S. Clinton Ave., Trenton, NJ 08611 or to Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
