Walter “Chief” Guelcher, 87, of Ewing, died suddenly Sunday, March 15, 2015. Born in the Bronx in New York City he was a resident of Ewing most of his life. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service, 34th Street Post Office in New York City, in 1982 after 35 years of service. He was then employed by the Romeco Service Station in Ewing from 1983 until 1997. Walter was an Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and also served in the U.S. Army Reserves until discharged in 1956. He was a member of the American Legion Post 314, the V.F.W. Post 7298, a member of the Retired Postal Workers Union and was a former member of Trenton B.P.O.E. # 105. He enjoyed taking cruises with his wife and going to the Casinos. He loved playing the NJ Lottery, enjoyed working in his yard and was known as Mr. Fix It. Son of the late Walter and Anna Jaeger Guelcher, brother of the late, Harold Guelcher, Florence Rosinski, Lillian Ryan and Annabel Guelcher; he is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Patricia Heise Guelcher; his sons,Walter Gregory Guelcher and Jeffrey Guelcher; his brothers, Albert Guelcher and his wife Virginia, Arthur Guelcher and his wife Doris and Robert Guelcher. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. The family would also like to thank Dr. Scott Adler and his staff for many years of care and patience along with very good friends Betsy and Bob Frederick. Calling hours for Walter will be held on Thursday, March 19, from 9 to 11 AM at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville. Following the calling hours a funeral procession to Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in N. Hanover Township for burial will take place.
