Obituary of Chancey Orr Jones

Chancey Orr Jones, 81, of Ewing died peacefully on Monday at Sunrise of Lower Makefield, Yardley, PA.
Born in Tiffin, Ohio, Chancey was a graduate of Edward Libbey High School in Toledo, Ohio. He went on and furthered his education graduating from the University of Toledo with a BA in Education. He continued his education receiving his Master’s in Education Administration from Wayne State University and his Master’s in Math Education form the University of Detroit. He was also a recipient of a Grant from the National Science Foundation for Science Education at Columbia University.
He was a United States Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. Upon graduation from college he was commissioned a 2nd Lt. eventually attaining the rank of Captain before being honorably discharged.
He began his civilian career as a math and physics teacher at Dondero High School in Royal Oak, MI where he taught from 1955 until 1967. While at Dondero he was a coach with both the football and basketball teams. In 1967 he joined Educational Testing Service (E.T.S.) and retired in 2004 as the Executive Director of Test Development after 37 years of service.
His love of coaching continued with his move to New Jersey where he coached basketball at the Princeton Day School for two years. He was active with both the Lawrence and Ewing Townships Recreation Departments coaching Little League and Babe Ruth baseball teams, recreation basketball teams, and Blue and White League football teams. He was also a Past President of the Ewing High School Father’s Club and a member of the National Federation of Officials Association.
Chancey was an active member of the Lawrence Road Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and also belonged to the Princeton Old Guard.
Son of the late Chancey and Anna Jones he is survived by his wife, Shirley Osburn Jones; his three sons, Michael Jones and his wife Joan of Coral Gables, Florida and Hampstead, New Hampshire, Daniel Jones of Ridgefield, NJ and David Jones of Robbinsville, NJ; 5 grandchildren, Katherine Jones Ponichtera and her husband Jonathan, Kevin, Anna, Christopher and Haley Jones; 3 great-grandchildren, Sarah Jones and Kelsey and Kaden Ponichtera; and his twin brother, Charles Jones and his wife Christine of Royal Oak, MI.
Funeral services for Chancey will be held on Saturday at 10 AM at the Lawrence Road Presbyterian Church, 1039 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville. Burial will follow in the Ewing Church Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call on Friday from 7 to 9 PM at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville.
Memorial contributions would be appreciated in Chancey’s name to either the Lawrence Road Presbterian Church, 1039 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 400 Morris Avenue, Suite 251, Denville, NJ 07834.
