Archie H. Bell, DDS, 93, of Lawrenceville, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2014 at Capital Health Systems at Fuld, Trenton, NJ surrounded by his loving family.
Dr. Bell was born on June 24, 1921 in Bridgewater, NJ (at that time part of Somerville) to Archibald T. Bell and Ella M. (Hodgetts) Bell. Raised in Elizabeth, he graduated from the Marquis DeLafayette Junior High School and the Thomas Jefferson High School. Dr. Bell received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Columbia College of Columbia University in New York and attended the School of Dental and Oral Surgery at Columbia University where he received his DDS degree. He went on to receive his Masters degree in Public Health.
Dr. Bell was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant of the U.S. Army and a JG in the U.S. Navy. He served during World War II in Panama Canal as the post dental surgeon.
Prior to moving to Lawrenceville, he was a longtime resident of Somerville where he maintained a dental practice for over 20 years and also enjoyed summers at his Stone Harbor, NJ residence.
A lifetime member of the NJ Dental Association, Dr. Bell was involved in many professional organizations. He was a member of the Plainfield Dental Association, where he served as its Secretary, Treasurer and President. In 1968, he became the Dental Director of Medicaid for the State of New Jersey, a position he held for over 25 years.
Although Dr. Bell was dedicated to his profession, his whole world and greatest passion was his family.
Dr. Bell is survived by his loving wife of 32 years Rosemary; his nine children and their spouses, Thomas and Cathy Bell, Theodore and Diane Bell, Nancy and Leigh Taylor, Rebecca and Michael Davies, Susan and David May, Ann and Dale Peterson, Amy and Steve Johnson, Patricia and John Fassnacht, and Sean Bell; his twenty grandchildren, and his twelve great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 14, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Poulson and VanHise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road (Route 206), Lawrenceville, NJ 08648.
Entombment will follow in Our Lady of Lourdes Mausoleum, Hamilton, NJ
Family and friends may call on Monday, July 14, 2014 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
