Walter Franklin Jarvis, Jr., longtime resident of Pennington, NJ: son of the late Gladys and Walter F. Jarvis of Trenton, NJ; loving husband of Theresa Bennett Jarvis; and proud father of Susan Elisabeth and Lynda Kathleen; passed away on June 13, 2014 at home at the age of 84. He is survived by his daughter, Susan Jarvis-Hagstrom, son-in-law Joseph Hagstrom, granddaughter Lyndsay Jarvis-Hagstrom, brother Kenneth Jarvis and sister-in-law Joyce Jarvis.
Walter was honorably discharged from the Army where he served as Private First Class during the Korean War at the Military Hospital in Munich, Germany from 1952-1953. While on duty, he crafted cranio-facial prostheses for wounded enlisted service men and women.
Mr. Jarvis also enjoyed a long career as Administrative Vice President at New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance Company in the home office in West Trenton, New Jersey where he began his tenure as an adjuster in the 1950’s. He retired in 1990’s after nearly 40 years of service.
Avid surf fisher, Walter enjoyed his time spent along the Cape May shore with his fishing companions over the years. The early sunrise image of Walter fishing at the water’s edge was often captured by a local surf camera and he was dubbed “Fisherman Joe” by ABC Action News.
A Grand Mason since the 1950’s, Walter was active in the Hopewell Lodge and later in the Amwell Lodge #12.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Walter’s memory to the Samaritan Hospice www.samaritanhealthcarenj.org and the Central Baptist Church in Ewing, New Jersey www.worshipatcentral.org The family wishes to extend their sincere and enduring gratitude to the entire staff at Samaritan Hospice for their amazing care and support of the family and Walter.
