Obituary of John E. Clancy

John E. Clancy, Jr., 84, of Trenton died peacefully Tuesday at home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Trenton he was a lifelong resident. He retired from the US Postal Service in 1983 after 37 years of faithful service. Never one to keep idle he then began employment with the State of NJ, Department of the Treasury, Office of Information and Technology until he retired once again in 1998.
John served his country in the Navy during WW II and as such was a member of American Legion Post 414 of Lawrenceville and the Catholic War Veterans-Holy Cross Post 417. He was also a member of the Hibernians.
He was a long time member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and served as President of the Holy Name Society, President of the Parish Council and served as an usher and lector.
John was very active in local sports and coached basketball and baseball at Trenton Catholic High School, Cathedral High School, St, Anthony’s High School and Notre Dame High School. He also coached the “God Squad” basketball team for the Diocese of Trenton. He was also an umpire and a former president and scheduler of the Mercer County Umpire’s Association. In 2008 he was proud to be inducted into the C.Y.O. Basketball Hall of Fame.
Son of the late John E. Clancy Sr. and Helen Mellor Clancy, and brother of the late Patrick Clancy, he is survived by his wife, Dorothy Kemo Clancy; his son, John E. Clancy, III and his wife Catherine of Lawrenceville; his daughter, Donna Marie Clancy of Manchester; his adopted daughter, Mary Seaman of Manchester; his grandchildren, Erin Clancy Deck and her husband Brian, Shannon Clancy and her fiancé Bob Bentley; and two great-grandchildren, Josephine and Dylan Deck.
Funeral services for John will be held on Saturday beginning at 9 AM at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Rd., Lawrenceville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am at St. Michael Catholic Church, Trenton. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton.
Friends may call on Friday from 3 to 7 PM at the funeral home.
