Obituary of Viola J. Bugdal

Viola J. Bugdal, 93, died peacefully Monday at her home in Lawrenceville. Except for a brief period of her childhood spent in Duquesne, Pennsylvania and later-in-life winters spent in Ft. Lauderdale Florida, she was a lifelong resident of Trenton and Lawrenceville. Born in February 1918 to Alexander and Zosia Sosnowski Pisarowicz, Viola was the youngest sister of the late Lillian Simon, Helen Jarmon and Stanley Pisarowicz. In September 1936, Viola married John W. Bugdal with whom she operated Bugdal’s Grocery on North Olden Avenue in Trenton for over 20 years until its closing in the late 1960s, after which she had a brief career with Educational Testing Service. Viola was the mother of the late John Jr. and grandmother of the late Sarah Ann and J. Christopher. She is survived by her daughter Marianne Newell and her husband Daniel, her son Robert and his wife Ann Marie, her son Donald and his wife Ann, her grandchildren Colleen, Andrew, Melissa, Jacqueline Ritter, and David Newell, and her great-grandchildren Madelaine Ritter and Delanie Newell. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Church of St. Ann, 1253 Lawrence Road in Lawrenceville. Family and friends also are invited to call on the family in the church’s daily chapel from 9 to 11 a.m. prior to the mass. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hamilton Township. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Viola’s memory be made to Notre Dame High School, c/o Development Office, 601 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648 or the American Legion Post 458 Ladies Auxiliary, 1438 Brunswick Avenue, Trenton, NJ 08638.
