Father Ed became a dear friend to my mother, Mary Cook, through Our Lady of Sorrows Church. I am very grateful that he was in her life; he was a very special, caring man. And now mom and he will be able to visit in Heaven.

We will always remember Fr. Ed's gentle mannerisms, his kindness and love. He truly was another Christ who loved his priesthood and gave so generously to all, especially in the confessional. I will never forget visiting him at Villa Vianney and asking him to stand next to the statue of St. John Vianney. I told him they were twins! Surely, they were spiritual brothers in ministering to our woundedness. May he glory in the reward of his many years of sacrificial love.

I was saddened to read in the newspaper of the passing of such a wonderful and dear kind friend. I met Fr. Dougherty at St. Francis Medical Center several years ago and became instant friends with him. He was a very warm and loving priest as well as a good friend. Father always had a smile and will be missed very much. Know that our prayers and thoughts are with his family at this difficult times. In the garden of your heart may many flowers grow.

He was an angel. Always smiling,no matter how bad he
felt and many times he was suffering. Knew him from O.L.S.when saying Mass and also confession. He never made you feel like you were a sinful person and upon leaving
he encouraged you and made you smile and think better of yourself. My deepest condolences to his family.

Our family was sad to hear of Father Dougherty's death. He guided us through happy, sad, and difficult times. He shared in major life changing family events...he performed three marriages, four christenings, and two funerals. His soft words of faith, his warm smile, and caring way will be missed but not forgotten.

RIP, Fr. Ed. You are a gem! You lived your priestly ministry with integrity and authenticity and followed the model of Jesus the Good Shepherd. Now may you rest in peace and enjoy the full reward of your life poured out in loving service.
Our heartfelt condolences to all who, like us, will miss Fr. Ed's physical presence among us but who count on his prayerful intercession with Jesus the Great High Priest.

I never knew Father Dougherty personally, only through the confessional, but he was my favorite priest to go to for confession. There was something very special about him that came through in his kind, gentle manner and his comforting, Christ-like, loving spirit of forgiveness. I will miss him and keep him, and his family, in my prayers.

Patty and I were saddened to learn of Father Ed's death. Father Ed was one of a kind! Few Priests have served such a broad range of ministries, from the jungles of Vietnam to the lovely grounds of Our Lady of Princeton. He had a personality that matched his loving heart. Despite being in constant pain Father was always upbeat and an inspiration to all whose paths he crossed. We take comfort in the memory of his gentle heart and remarkable spirit. Rest in Peace Father.
