Obituary of Jean Rambo

Please share a memory of Jean to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jean Rambo (nee Glinz) passed away Thursday February 24th at Maine General with her family at her side. She was born in New Jersey to Fred and Doris Glinz, the first of their three children. Jean was a compassionate and loving wife, mother, sister and friend to many. She had an amazing mind and challenged herself constantly to learn and understand more. While studying political science at George Washington University in the late 1960’s, she became involved in Robert Kennedy’s presidential campaign. She quickly rose to become one of his national student coordinators. After college she stayed in Washington DC, taking a position as a billing clerk at George Washington University Hospital. Within two years she was the Patient Accounts Manager with a staff of 44 people. She met her soul mate and partner in business and life, Richard, in Washington DC in August 1972. They moved to Maine in 1975, and settled in Winterport. While there they partnered with other family and helped run Rambo’s Store in Hampden. After the birth of their precious son, Alex, in 1985, they moved to Gardiner. She and her husband were well known realtors, and owned Arbor Realty in downtown Gardiner until 1997. While she couldn’t stop the aging of her body, Jean refused to become “old” in spirit or mind. She was fascinated with technology and three years ago set about building her own computer. The following year she built a gaming computer for her son. In late 2006 she helped her husband open A Child’s Nest, an early education/childcare center in Pennsylvania that services 125 children and their families. She designed and maintained the company’s computer network, wrote the employee handbook, parent handbook and much more. She is survived by her husband Richard and son Alex of Gardiner, sisters Linda Glinz of Gardiner, and Alice Spas and husband Tom of Newport, MI; mother-in-law Lois Rambo of Bangor, brother-in-law Bill Rambo and wife Betty of Otis, ME. Also special cousins, Karen Green and her husband Brian of Gardiner, and Glenn Marcus of Arlington, VA. She leaves many wonderful cousins, nephews and nieces. She is predeceased by her parents Fred and Doris Glinz; aunt and uncle Altheda and Saul Marcus; and father-in-law Earl Rambo The funeral will be held on Saturday March 5th at 11 AM at St. Matthias Episcopal Church, 2200 Genesse Street in Hamilton. Burial will be in Ewing Church Cemetery. The family requests no flowers and memorial donations may be made in Jean’s memory to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312 or online at www.diabetes.org.
