Obituary of Jean I Firlan

Jean I.(Carney) Firlan, 82, of Hamilton, died peacefully on Thursday at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton surrounded by her family. Born in Trenton, she was a lifelong area resident. Jean was retired from Circle F Industries and worked for many years at the Hudson Beer Garden in Trenton. Jean was a devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed nothing more than being with her family and friends and playing bingo. Daughter of the late James and Lydia Applegate Carney, she is survived by her husband of 61 years, Frank Firlan, her two daughters; Barbara Knoblock of Trenton, and Patricia Durastanti and her husband Nick of Hopewell, her son, William Firlan and his wife Joy of Hamilton, her seven grandchildren; Robert Knoblock and his wife Laura, Brian, and David Knoblock, Nicholas Durastanti and his wife Elizabeth, Leah Durastanti, and Blake and Connor Firlan; her five great grandchildren, Amanda, Andrea, Kevin, and Kyle Knoblock and Anna Durastanti. She is also survived by her brothers; Donald Carney and Harry and Billy Francis, her sisters; Lydia Sabo and BettyLou Har-Hash, her sisters-in-law; Rose Firlan, Susie, Carney and Jean Carney and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers; James, John, Thomas, and Larry Carney, and her sister, Muriel Carney. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday at 8 a.m. from Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Church, 626 S. Olden Ave., Hamilton. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Hamilton. Friends may call on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
