Obituary of Martha L Davis

Martha L. Davis, 91, of Lawrence Township, passed away peacefully on Friday at the Elms of Cranbury with family at her bedside. Born in Trenton, she was a resident of Lawrence for most of her life. She graduated summa cum laude as a registered nurse from Muhlenberg Hospital School of Nursing in 1937. Her early nursing career included employment at the Lawrenceville Preparatory School and the Parkway Nursing Home. For 19 years Martha worked for Helene Fuld Medical Center, retiring as head nurse in 1982. She was a faithful parishioner of the Lawrence Road Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed spending time with her children and watching her grandchildren grow up and start their own families. She was also grateful for the friends she made among the residents and staff of the Elms of Cranbury. Daughter of the late Charles H. and Hattie M. Smith, she is predeceased by her eleven brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son Robert W. Davis and wife Helen of Hamilton, son Barrett S. Davis of Cranbury, and daughter Marion (Davis) Smayda and husband William, of Hamilton Square , nine grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law Margaret Smith, Arlene Smith, Barbara Baker and husband Theodore, and brother-in-law Ronald Davis, and several nieces and nephews. Her funeral will be held on Thursday April 2, 2009 at 9:30 AM from Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville. Funeral services will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 AM, at the Lawrence Road Presbyterian Church, 1039 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville. Burial will be private. Friends may call on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 from 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home.
