Obituary of Phillip Adam Baker
Phillip Adam Baker, age 62, of Hamilton, NJ passed away peacefully on August 23rd at Serenity Hospice at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton. Phil passed away after a six month battle to recover from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. His bravery and tenacity during this time touched all who had the fortune of knowing him.
Born in Elizabeth, NJ, Phil was a longtime resident of Hamilton. He was a graduate of Steinert High School in the class of 1979, known as the “79ers” to friends and classmates. His fellow 79ers were cherished friends throughout his life, and he spoke of his high school days with pride and affection.
Phil was proud to be a carpenter by trade. He believed in executing every task with precision, speed, and care, and taught many young carpenters to do the same. He was employed by AGM Construction for many years, and enjoyed telling stories of his many successes while on the job.
Phil’s hobbies included playing music, reading comic books, collecting many types of memorabilia, sketching and creating art, working on motorcycles, and watching old westerns and shows about mythical creatures. Phil was a skilled guitar player, great dancer, loyal friend, loving parent, and generous teacher. Above all, Phil valued spending time with his friends and family.
Phil is survived by his children, Lindsey Trout (Robert Trout), James Baker, Ashley Baker, and Christina Brown (James Brown); his grandchildren, Finn and Asher Gerrard; his siblings and their spouses, William Baker and the late Phyllis Baker, Michael and Nancy LaTourette, and Eva and Robert Fernicola; his companion for more than 30 years, Rose Engler; his former spouse and lifelong friend, Jill DeBlois Baker; two close family friends, Annemarie Terelmes and Janis Burns; two people he considered like his children, Alec Maleson and Tiffany Powell; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Family and friends will begin sharing some of their fondest memories of Phil on Wednesday, August 28th 1:00-3:00PM at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648.
