Obituary of Robert H. Curtis, Sr.
Robert H. Curtis, Sr. of Celebration, FL, passed away on Sunday, June 9, 2024.
He was born on October 19, 1923 in Leonardo, NJ, the only child of Thomas and Elsa Curtis (nee Cowden). After graduating from Middletown High School in 1941 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and served in the Pacific during WWII. After the war he was sent by the Marines to Princeton University to continue his education in communications. During this time, he met his future bride, Miriam Gorman who was serving in the United States Navy. They were married on May 18, 1946 in St. Mary’s Church in Gloucester City, NJ. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary at The Church of St. Ann in Lawrenceville, NJ. Bob worked for New Jersey Bell for 34 years, retiring in 1983. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Rutgers University.
Robert was a proud Marine. He was a faithful communicant of St. Ann’s Church, Lawrenceville and Corpus Christe Church in Celebration, FL. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and various veteran’s organizations including The U.S.M.C. League of Orange County, FL. Robert was joined by family and friends to celebrate his 100th birthday at Windsor. He loved to read, hunt, fish, and enjoyed cruising all over the world.
Robert is predeceased by his wife Miriam and his oldest daughter Regina. He is survived by his son Robert and his wife Karen of Barnegat, NJ, his daughter Nancy Hannan and her husband Timothy of Celebration, FL and his son-in-law Douglas Forrest of Carriere, MS; 4 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at 10:30AM at The Church of St. Ann, 1253 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648.
Interment will be held at Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery at 12:30PM.
The viewing for Bob will be held on Monday, June 17, 2024 from 6-8PM and again on Tuesday morning from 9-10AM at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648.
