John B. Murphy, 86, of Lawrenceville died peacefully at Morris Hall on Saturday September 16, 2023. John was a resident of Morris Hall for 9 years; his family is forever thankful for the dedicated staff, for their loving and respectful care.
Son of the late William and Irene Murphy, husband of the late Margaret Murphy; he is survived by his loving daughter and son-in-law Colleen and Max Ramos; two grandchildren Jake and Alexis Irene Ramos; along with many nieces and nephews.
John was born in Brooklyn, NY and was a longtime resident of Queens, NY where he married the love of his life, Margaret Mooney, and where they raised their only child, Colleen. John was a hard worker throughout his whole life despite his physical challenges due to cerebral palsy. He was employed as a warehouse operator with Catholic Medical Mission, Archdiocese NY, retiring after 20 years of dedicated service. John took on a second career as a doorman working the overnight shift where he thoroughly enjoyed engaging with all his residents daily. John and Margaret enjoyed traveling to County Down, Northern Ireland, fishing in the Irish Sea and spending time with family.
John was an active member of Knights of Columbus over 50 years beginning in Queens NY, then New Haven CT, and finally Council #7000 in Lawrenceville. He was also a 3rd Degree Member.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 PM Friday, September 22, 2023, at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel at Morris Hall, 1 Bishops Drive Lawrenceville, NJ.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 11:30 to time of Mass in Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel at Morris Hall.
Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hamilton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in John’s memory to United Cerebral Palsy of Long Island Development Office, 250 Marcus Blvd, Hauppauge NY, 11788.
