Obituary of Dr. Carmine Di Sanzo

Dr. Carmine Di Sanzo, 90, of Lawrenceville, passed away on Monday, July 10, 2023 at home.
Born in Saracena, Italy, He obtained his Doctorate in Agricultural Sciences from the University of Bari, Italy and subsequently moved to the United States in 1961 to join his family in Connecticut. He then attended the University of Massachusetts, Amherst campus, earning his Doctorate in plant pathology. Carmine then relocated to Medina, New York, joining the FMC Corporation as a research scientist. He would reside in Medina for 15 years with his wife, son and daughter. He moved to Lawrenceville with his family in 1982, then joined the United States Environmental Protection Agency, where he became director of the pesticide division. Carmine wrote several scientific publications and holds several patents. Upon his retirement, Carmine contributed as an arborist on the Shade Tree Committee and taught Italian at the Lawrence Senior Center. He was a longtime parishioner at The Church of St. Ann.
Son of the late Joseph and Rosina Di Sanzo, husband of the late Maria Di Sanzo; he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Joseph and Daisy Di Sanzo, his daughter and son-in-law Rose and Michael Bernard; his granddaughter Anjela Mary Dela Cruz, his sister and brother-in-law Domenica and Italo Siciliano, his brother and sister-in-law Frank and Christina Di Sanzo; three nieces Maria MacLean, Fabiana McShane and Tiffany Woods; his special friend Gwendolyn Deans.
Carmine was proud of his accomplishments yet humble and down-to-earth. He was known for his sense of humor and loyalty to family and friends. He will be greatly missed by anyone who was fortunate enough to have known him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 17, 2023, at 10:00AM at The Church of St. Ann, 1253 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648. Mass attendees are asked to arrive at the church no later than 9:45AM.
Entombment will be held in St. Mary’s Mausoleum, Hamilton Twp.
The viewing for Carmine will be held on Sunday, July 16, 2023 from 3-5PM at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville, NJ.
