William Washington Wnek, passed peacefully in his sleep on Sunday morning January 29, 2023. He was 89 years and 11 months.
Bill was born in Moundsville, West Virginia to Peter and Frances (Dzedziek) the youngest of nine children – four brothers and four sisters, all deceased now. Always a fine student, he graduated at the top of his class from Moundsville High School. He was also an accomplished saxophone musician and played many weddings and events throughout West Virginia. He enlisted in the US Navy and served aboard the USS Wisconsin during the Korean War and had the good fortune sailing throughout the world. Upon returning home from service, he was the first of his family to graduate from college, attending West Virginia University with honors. He worked for Allied Chemical and was later transferred to New York City to work for Bristol Myers Squibb. There he met and married Elizabeth “Betty” Fallon.
When BMS relocated to Princeton, they moved to Lawrenceville where he lived for over 50 years. Upon retiring from BMS, he worked as the Business Manager of Notre Dame High School. He was a daily communicant at the Church of St. Ann and a member of the Knights of Columbus, chapter 7000. In his early years in West Virginia, he served as a Grand Knight. He also was an organizer of the Prince of Peace Prayer Group, Christian Family Movement, and a facilitator for Pre-Cana sessions. Although he was most proud of his Polish heritage, socially he and Betty became active in the Sons and Daughters of Erin where they became accomplished Ceili dancers. However, they were best known for their waltzing. Bill and Betty loved to travel and during their marriage traveled throughout the US, cruised almost all of the islands of the Caribbean, most provinces of Canada, and major cities across Europe.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Elizabeth (Betty), daughter Lizanne Holland and her husband David of Lawrenceville, and son William Wnek of Baltimore. And grandchildren, Elizabeth, David, Timmy and Michael Holland and Maddy and Will Wnek.Bill was the most humble and quiet man who lived his life with the credo of Faith, Family and Friendship and will be greatly missed.
