Obituary of Martha Marie McCabe

Martha Marie McCabe (nee Ullmann), 93, died January 21, 2009, in Skillman, N.J. A lifelong resident of New Jersey, Mrs. McCabe was born in Jersey City and raised in Maywood. She graduated from St. Cecelia's H.S. in Englewood in 1934. After working for several years in various retail positions, she married Thomas Edward McCabe in 1939 and they lived in Closter from 1941 to 1962. Mrs. McCabe was the founding president of the St. Mary's School Parents Guild in Closter and was active in other community activities, including serving as a Republican County Chairwoman in Bergen County. Between 1962 and 1994, Mrs. McCabe resided in Mendham where she continued her involvement in community activities including The Visiting Nurse Association of Somerset Hills where she played an active role in running the Association's annual rummage sale, one of the VNA's major fundraising activities, for over twenty years,. Her husband, Thomas, joined her in this activity after his retirement from Allied Chemical (Honeywell) in 1975. Mrs. McCabe's husband predeceased her in 2007 and she is survived by her children Richard, and his wife Nancy, of Lynnefield, MA; Donald, and his wife D.J., of South Orange, NJ; Colleen Rafferty, and her husband John, of Yardley, PA; and Erin Cox, and her husband William, of Manheim, PA; 13 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, January 31st at 10 AM for Mrs. McCabe and her husband at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 47 Skillman Road, Skillman, NJ. Burial will follow at a private ceremony in Pennsylvania. The family will receive visitors one half hour before mass and one half hour afterwards at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mrs. McCabe's name to the Hospice Program of Princeton HomeCare Services or to the St. Charles Borromeo Healthcare Ministry in Skillman.
