Please share a memory of Charles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Charles Edgar “Skip” Conover, Jr., age 88, of Lawrenceville, NJ, died on December 10, 2021 at Penn Medical Center, Plainsboro, NJ.
He was predeceased by his parents, C. Edgar and Lila Sutton Conover, his brother, James Conover, and his first wife, Faye Johnson Conover.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Ruth Clarke Conover; daughters Elizabeth Diane Lizardi of Walden, NY; Deborah Conover (Thomas Fronckowiak) of Somers Point, NJ; and Pamela Quagliero (Joseph) and grandson Zachary Quagliero of Richboro, PA.
Born in Somers Point, NJ on October 28, 1933, he was graduate of Ocean City High School. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, Skip volunteered for the draft and spent his Army career at Fort Eustis, Virginia.
After his discharge from the Army, he was hired by the FBI in Washington, DC. While at the FBI, through the GI Bill, he earned a degree from Southeastern University (Business and Accounting). Skip enjoyed a varied and accomplished career at the FBI, IBM, and the Lawrenceville Water Company where he was a member of the Board of Directors. At the water company, he loved getting to know members of the community. Customers would often sit down and spend time chatting with Skip.
For the 1991-1992 academic year, through IBM’s Faculty Loan Program, Skip was Executive Director of Advance at the University of Cincinnati. He was Director Emeritus of the NJ Gateway Federal Credit Union. He dedicated many hours to The Presbyterian Church of Lawrenceville where he served as an Elder and a Trustee and a frequent Sunday morning Greeter. He was a CASA volunteer. He served on the boards of many community groups – among them Lawrenceville Main Street, Lawrence Township Affordable Housing Board, the Lawrence Township Office on Aging’s Executive Committee, and on the board of his neighborhood’s homeowner’s association.
Skip enjoyed an active retirement filled with hobbies, travel, Monday Night Poker, Conover family research, cheering (and bemoaning) the Boston Red Sox, and doting on his beloved grandson. He never met a camera or a Bingo card he didn’t like.
Known for his friendliness, he had an ever-present twinkle in his eye, and a smile that lit up the room.
Burial will be private.
