Bate’s gone fishing. John Francis Kite, lovingly known to family and friends as Bate, passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at home. He was 62. A lifelong resident of Lawrenceville, he is a retiree from the Mercer County Bridge Department. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Post 414, and an active volunteer with the VFW Post 3022 and the Whitehead Vets. An avid outdoorsman and fisherman, he enjoyed baking, cooking, beekeeping & horticulture. Bate was a true renaissance man, widely praised for his tap dance skills, legendary Halloween costumes, famous Bate's Buzz organic honey products and his award winning Batesi Cabernet. Son of the late John Alban Kite, Bate is survived by his pride and joy, daughter Courtney Kite and grandson Collin Powell as well as his mother Margaret Kite, siblings and their spouses Robert Kite, Joseph & Rita Kite, Clare & Jeff Kwami, Richard Kite, Christopher Kite, Catherine & James Strycharz, Rose Seifert & Bill Walters, Agnes Kite, and Mary Kite & Paul Jivoff, and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 1, 2021 at 10:30AM at The Church of St. Ann 1253 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648. Interment will be held privately. The visitation for John will be held on Thursday evening from 5-7PM at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648. Any unvaccinated attendees must wear a mask for the visitation and mass for John.
