God love him, Herbert was my dad's (Tom Jr.) first cousin. Had the honor to have met him on a few occasions when he visited Newfoundland. My condolences to Sue and Eddie Joe, we met only once, family roots run long and deep. The picture is a copy from another family member, your dad, uncle Ed and my dad are in the picture, taken on the Terra Nova bridge in Glovertown.
Sincerely
Jim Sweetapple and family.

When I first met your dad I was impressed by his bright smile and easy conversation. I guess our love of Jesus bonded us. He loved German people. He lived a long and fruitful live and is now happy to be with his Lord.

We always enjoyed spending time with him - I remember many nights sitting around the kitchen table playing cards, and he would come in from working the evening shift - God Bless

We didn’t get to spend nearly enough time with our Big Brother Herbert (Herb) over the years. But when I think of Herb, what I think of him mostly is the goodness I’ve felt in him, and how I could feel it wrapped all around me, like a big hug. I know I will always feel that goodness and will pass it on to others!
I’ll always love you Herb & miss you! I know that you are in Heaven with all the other Angels.
Our condolences to Ed & Susan & their families.
Love from Baby Sister Judy & Ivan

Uncle Bert was the model of the greatest generation. Reading his life's story, he exemplified service, care and compassion across nations. A story for everyone to know. While our time together was of many decades past, I recall his laughter, values and character. My condolences to his family and friends.

I only had the fortune to meet my uncle once in 2000 in Newfoundland. It was clear to me that he was a man of conviction and one who held firm to his values. I am a teacher in Canada and every Remembrance Day (November 11) I tell of my uncle who served in multiple wars, for two countries, and won multiple awards. At the end of each ceremony everyone is invited to put their poppy on the stage for someone they know/knew who served and I always lay mine down for my uncle. Although I never really knew my Uncle Herbert I admired him for his courage and dedication to community, not matter what country that may be in. Rest in peace knowing you did your fair share, and much more, to make the world a better place.
