Robert C. Dodson, 97, of Delray Beach FL, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2017 at Delray Beach Medical Center, Hospice Unit, Delray Beach, FL.
Born and educated in Indianapolis, IN, Robert married Frances Scanlon, to whom he was a loving husband for 71 years, in October 1940. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corp shortly after Pearl Harbor. During his forty-six months of active duty in WWII, he was a flight instructor, a check pilot, and flew B17 and B29 airplanes. He and his crew were on their way to the South Pacific Theater when the war ended. After the war, he worked as a salesman for A.B. Dick Company, Chicago, IL and was promoted to District Sales Manager. He served in that capacity until 1954 when he moved to Trenton, NJ starting his own company, Duplicating Products of Trenton Inc. He served as President until his retirement in 1985. During his tenure, the company grew from three employees to become one of the largest in Central New Jersey selling graphic arts and printing equipment and supplies. During his active business career, he served as a member of the Board of Directors of Frederick W. Donnelly & Son, Trenton, NJ, a member of the Lay Board of Directors, St. Francis Medical Center, Trenton, NJ, where he served two years as President, a member of the Board of Directors of Mercer Medical Center, Trenton, NJ. He also served as Chairman of A.B. Dick Company, Chicago, IL, Distributor Advisor Council. He was past President of the Ewing Lions Club, a 60-year member of the Englewood Masonic Lodge, Indianapolis, IN, a past member of the Scottish Rite and Crescent Temple Shrine. In 2006, he was awarded the “Life Achievement Award” from Arsenal Technical High School, Indianapolis, IN, from which he graduated in 1937. Mr. Dodson was an avid golfer, a past president of the Trenton Country Club and the Hamlet Country Club in Delray Beach, FL. During his golfing life, he scored five holes-in-one, the last at age 80. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved dancing and traveling with his wife as well as playing cards, cherishing family pets, and making his family laugh.
Son of the late Elmer and Agnes Dodson; husband of the late Frances S. Dodson; he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Richard C. and Mary S. Dodson; his grandchildren Jenny, Bethany, Richmond Dodson and the family dog Rudy; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at 11AM at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648.
Interment will follow at Ewing Church Cemetery, Ewing Twp.
Relatives and friends may call on Tuesday, August 1 from 10AM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
