George Barker, 95, of Hightstown, passed away on Sunday, December 4, 2016 at University Medical Center of Princeton @ Plainsboro. Born in Stoke on Trent, England, he was a longtime resident of Lawrenceville, before moving to Hightstown two years ago. George served in WWII with the Ministry of Works, Royal Corp of Signals then the Royal Air Force, his love was the Spitfire and he was often heard saying “ they will save England and will lick the Luftwaffe”. He became the General Sales Manager of the Lawley Group of China and Earthenware manufacturers, traveled throughout Europe and spent several months in the USA, before moving and locating there permanently in 1957. George was the former General Manager for Stangl Pottery from 1958-1963, General Sales Manager and Director of International Markets, Lenox China and Crystal from 1963-1980, President of Spode China North America 1968-1970, Joint Managing Director Spode China England Group worldwide 1970-1976, Executive V.P Boehm Porcelain Studios USA & United Kingdom 1976-1980 having traveled extensively with Helen Boehm. Retiring in 1986, George became an International Marketing consultant for several major corporations. As an international glass designer and wine devotee, he lectured on cruise ships, hotels, country clubs and restaurants. During his international career, he traveled to 56 countries. His favorite sport was golf and he was a member of the Hopewell Valley Golf Club for 52 years, had 5 holes in one and matched his age several times with rounds of 80 and 85. Son of the late George and Esther Barker, brother of the late Doris Barker, Edward Barker, Vera Murray, Irene Wilmer, and John Barker, husband of the late Constance Barker; he is survived by his sister Rose Clarke and her husband Jack; his loving nieces and nephews, close friends George and Linda Muller, Bert Sanford and David and Judy Pota. Funeral services will be held privately.
