Kuulei Lyden, 93, of Arvada, CO, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at Mountain Vista Health Care Center in Wheat Ridge, Colorado.
Born in Hilo, Hawaii, she was a longtime resident of Lawrenceville, before moving to Colorado to be closer to her family. As a teenager she worked at Mahalona Store and Dole Pineapple and later graduated from Farrington High School in Honolulu, Hawaii. Kuulei retired from the Peddie School, where she was employed as a pastry chef for many years. She was a former longtime parishioner of St Joseph’s and later church of St Ann. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.
Daughter of the late Roger and Lillian James; sister of the late Elizabeth Eli, Eleanor Yim, Leilani Zeiger, Muriel Sibley, Clarence Simmons, Robert Simmons and Roger James; wife of the late William P. Lyden; she is survived by her children William P. Lyden, Jr(Sharon), Michael P. Lyden, Richard Lyden(Cherrill) and Michelle Cuff (Michael); seven grandchildren Jennifer Wood, Stephanie Tell, David Brown, Katy Powers, Steven, Amy and Samantha Lyden; Loving friend ,neighbor, and care giver, Sue Folbig nine great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, 1 brother and several nieces and nephews
Kuulei was the leader of the "Steady Stitchers" 4-H club, Taught the Hula to several people and groups including her 4-h club and the Hula club at the Lawrence Senior Center, Organized countless bus trips to a variety of destinations, Baked and decorated wedding cakes, Former President of the Widow and widowers club, and enjoyed sewing and arts and crafts.
The funeral will begin on Friday, April 22, 2016 at 9AM at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on 10AM at The Church of St. Ann 1253 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648.
Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hamilton, NJ.
Relatives and friends can gather on Thursday evening from 6-8PM at the funeral home
