Dorothy Mc Guire Bailey, 87, loving and caring mother and nurse, of Lawrenceville, formerly of North Plainfield, died on Tuesday December 18, 2012 at the Lawrenceville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Mrs. Bailey was born in Princeton in 1925 to the late Charles and Helen St. George McGuire. After her mother’s passing in 1930, she was raised by her aunt and uncle, Katherine and William Blake. Her sister, Helen V. McGuire died at the age of 18 in 1942.
Mrs. Bailey graduated from Princeton High School in 1943. She graduated from Johns Hopkins Hospital School of Nursing in 1946, a member of the Cadet Nurse Corps - the largest and youngest group of uniformed women to serve in WW II. She married her husband Donald in 1947, and lived in Plainfield and North Plainfield for 48 years before returning to Mercer County.
In the 1950’s Mrs. Bailey worked as a private duty nurse at Muhlenburg Hospital in Plainfield. She retired from the Runnells Hospital in Berkley Heights in 1985. She was a member of The Church of St. Ann, Catholic Women’s Club of the Plainfields, St. Luke’s Leisure Club, and Johns Hopkins University Alumni Association.
Wife of the late Donald H. Bailey, she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law; James P. and Elizabeth Bailey of Oakhurst, her daughter and son-in-law; Ann and John Traina of Hamilton Township, her grandchildren; John M Traina and wife Natasha, and Katherine Sutton and husband Daniel, her great grandchildren; Samantha and Benjamin Sutton, her brother David T. Blake, her niece Katherine Blake, and nephew Charles Blake.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. on Saturday December 22, 2012 at The Church of St. Ann, 1253 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville. Burial will be in the Cherryville Baptist Cemetery, 595 Cherryville Road, Flemington.
Friends may call on Saturday morning from 8 to 9 a.m. at the church.
