Obituary of Randall John Scully
Please share a memory of Randall to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On November 9, Randy Scully lost his year long battle against an insidious form of cancer. He was 63.
Randy grew up in Columbus and Bordentown and lived in Ewing Twp. for 23 years. He moved back to Columbus 3 years ago.
Randy graduated from Cathedral High School in 1967 and Trenton State College in 1971. He worked for Prudential Insurance Co. as an agent and sales manager. He retired in 1992. Always the sportsman Randy excelled at baseball as a youngster and teen. Golf was his real passion. In the late 70's and 80's he was a local star in the golf arena. He won many club championships from Peddie, Sky View, and Old York. He also won the Trenton District Amateur twice, the Metropolitan and a state championship.
Randy was an avid hunter and trap shooter. He loved fishing and fished the Bass Pro and other amateur circuits for many years. Randy enjoyed the crazy pinochle games with his "Italian friends" almost every day. It was a big part of his life.
In 1969 Randy married his high school sweetheart, Natalie Poleo. They were married for 43 years. They have one daughter, Brandy, who was her father’s joy and his biggest advocate. She was " my girl " to daddy. Brandy gave him the best gifts of his life, his three grandsons. Nicholas who is his best pal and knows all his secrets. He is so much like his Pop that we call him "little Randy". The bond between them is unexplainable. Joey, our caring, loveable, sensitive, card playing meatball. His Pop said he was the luckiest kid ever. He was his Pop's T.V. snuggle bug. Anthony, an unexpected sparkle of smiles and hugs for his Pop. The only person who got away with teasing Pop and brought out Randy's great sense of humor, a wonderful trait they share.
Randy was a complex person who loved his family. Different people knew him in different ways. Deep down he was a big teddy bear who loved his family more than anything in the world. He always said what he felt whether you liked it or not. He was an honest man who always kept his word.
Randy was predeceased by his father John J. Scully. He is survived by his wife Natalie, his daughter and son in-law Brandy and Chris Corbo, his three grandsons Nicholas, Joey, and Anthony Corbo. His mother Alvah Scully, his brother Michael Scully, his sister and brother in-law Beth and Daryl Bell, sister Sharon Scully, many nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Randy will be held on Thursday beginning at 10 AM at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors 650 Lawrence Rd, Lawrenceville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM at the Church of St. Ann, Lawrenceville. Entombment will follow in St. Mary’s Mausoleum, Hamilton.
