Obituary of Katherine S. Cammarata

Katherine Cammarata (nee Saia), 97, of Lawrenceville, passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2011, surrounded by her loving family. Kate was a lifelong resident of Lawrenceville. She was employed for many years as a nanny for various families in the Lawrenceville area. She loved children, and was a surrogate grandmother to many. She loved to cook and bake—her wonderful tomato sauce and lemon meringue pies were legendary. Kate possessed a quick wit and a wry smile, and many a family dinner was spent laughing and reminiscing about the “old” days. The true loves of her life were her grandchildren Matthew, Daniel, Andrew and Michael. The happiest times of her life began when she became a grandmother for the first time at age 70! Predeceased by her parents Rose and Joseph Saia, her loving husband John, her sister Josephine Vasta, and her brothers John, Charles, Michael and Sam Saia, she is survived by her daughter Lucille and son-in-law Bill Harper, her son Philip and daughter-in-law Maxine Cammarata, and her daughter Kathy and son-in-law Dan Galvano. She is also survived by her grandchildren Matthew and Daniel Galvano, and Andrew and Michael Cammarata, as well as several nieces and nephews. A celebration of Kate’s life will be held on Tuesday, November 8 at 11:00 a.m. at Poulson and Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
